Even voorstellen Pete (God) en Christa (Goddess by default)

During the weekdays we keep ourselves busy fixing air conditioning and creating lighting designs. In our evening hours we swim, if we haven’t fallen asleep on the sofa. I (Christa) used to be (yeah used to be) a keen waterpolo player with the dames team of Aquadraat, however, since my move to Australia I have only been doing ocean swimming. Having lived in Australia before I am not unfamiliar with ocean swimming, with my biggest distance so far being the swim around wedding cake island at Coogee at a distance of 2.4km. And so yes I am very familiar with the itchy effects of sea lice... Pete (who nicknamed himself ‘Pete is a God’ in my phone) is my partner. Being a keen triathlon man, he too is familiar with long distance swims. Although completing an iron man put a hold to his insane training regime (I must admit, I may have had a hand in that too, not a big fan of the 4am alarm clocks), he is still a keen runner, cyclist and swimmer when injuries don’t hold him back. So when Sanne suggested to do this Bosphorus swim, we decide that would be a fun start to a trip to Europe. Now that we have actually gotten through the ballot, our occasional training sessions are turning more serious, and we found a great swimming coach who is teaching us how to swim all over again! We are lucky to live in this amazing city of Sydney with plenty of beaches and ocean pools around. Our regular pool sessions are supplemented by ocean swims at various beaches and on Sundays we join the daily swim group called ‘Bold and Beautiful’ in Manly. This group swims everyday, yes everyday!!! from Manly to Shelly and back, and again for those who want to. A leisurely 750m swim each way at 7am in the morning. Great way to start a Sunday morning.  To test if we are prepared to do this swim crazy long swim in the Bosphorus we did a 3.8km swim in the pool yesterday and are planning to do the 5km at Balmoral on April 7. Fingers crossed we make it through that without any injuries. Keep an eye on this blog for our results, and some awesome photos! Christa and Pete
